Our volunteers play a vital role in helping us cultivate not only beautiful plants, but also a community where everyone can thrive.

We offer a variety of volunteer positions to match different interests, skills, and schedules:

Nursery Support Volunteers

  • Assist with Natives or Ornamental plant care, propagation and maintenance

Retail Assistants

  • Help customers with plant selection and information
  • Assist with inventory management
  • Support sales transactions and packaging

Program Support Volunteers

  • Work directly with program participants as a mentor/buddy
  • Assist instructors during training sessions
  • Help develop accessible learning materials

Special Event and Outreach Volunteers

  • Assist with pop-up sales and educational workshops
  • Help with setup, customer service, and breakdown for events
  • Support fundraising activities and community outreach

Administrative Volunteers

  • Assist with office tasks, data entry, and record keeping
  • Help with marketing, social media, and communications
  • Support grant writing and donor relations

Time Commitment

  • Regular volunteers: Minimum of 4 hours per week for at least 3 months
  • Event volunteers: Varies based on event needs
  • One-time group volunteers: Arranged in advance for specific projects

Age Requirements

  • Individual volunteers must be at least 18 years old

Skills and Qualifications

  • No prior horticulture experience required for most positions
  • Patience, flexibility, and a positive attitude
  • Willingness to learn about working with adults with disabilities
  • Specific skills may be required for specialized volunteer roles

Physical Requirements

  • Nursery volunteers should be able to stand for periods of time and lift at least 15 pounds
  • Accommodations can be made for volunteers with disabilities
  • Various roles available with different physical requirements

Respectful Interaction

  • Treat all program participants, staff, and fellow volunteers with dignity and respect
  • Use person-first language and avoid patronizing speech
  • Focus on abilities rather than disabilities
  • Ask before providing assistance

Reliability

  • Arrive on time for scheduled shifts
  • Notify the Volunteer Coordinator at least 24 hours in advance if unable to attend
  • Follow through on commitments

Professionalism

  • Maintain appropriate boundaries with program participants
  • Respect confidentiality of participant information
  • Follow all GROW HUB policies and procedures
  • Represent GROW HUB positively in the community

Safety

  • Follow all safety guidelines and protocols
  • Report any concerns or incidents immediately
  • Use proper body mechanics when lifting or carrying
  • Assist in maintaining a clean and organized environment

In general, we can work with a maximum of 20 volunteers depending on our schedule and availability of supervisors. Groups over 10 can only be scheduled on weekends to allow our supervisors to work most effectively with our staff with disabilities.
